Yard Lumber & Fence Supply to close

Industrial Distribution staff -- Industrial Distribution, 6/16/2008 6:30:00 AM

Yard Lumber & Fence Supply, a building materials distributor based in Modesto, Calif., plans to shut down, the Modesto Bee reported.

Owner Gary Robinson told the newspaper the closure was prompted by slow sales and his desire to pursue other interests. Robinson said he’ll close the business June 18 and offer any remaining inventory at auction.

“The timing just kind of fits," he told the paper, citing slow sales in the face of the residential construction downturn. “I have other things I want to do, and I think that's the direction I want to go.”

The company, which employs about 20 workers, scaled back about a year and a half ago from roughly 70 employees.
