Interline Brands’ president & COO steps down

Industrial Distribution staff -- Industrial Distribution, 6/16/2008 6:37:00 AM

Interline Brands president and COO William Sanford resigned from the company effective immediately.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based MRO distributor said it has no plans to replace Sanford, who will continue working on Interline’s acquisitions program during the transition period.

Sanford said he plans to relocate to Philadelphia by the end of the year, a move which would make the commute to Jacksonville untenable.

“It has been a pleasure working closely with [Interline chairman and CEO] Mike Grebe and the outstanding management team of Interline Brands over the last 10 years,” he said. “However, I have decided that commuting between Philadelphia and Jacksonville would require more flexibility to control my calendar, a luxury that is not possible given my current responsibilities as chief operating officer. This was an extremely tough decision for all of us and I would like to thank Mike and the board for their flexibility and understanding.”

Grebe and other members of the management team will take on Sanford’s duties.

“Bill and I will continue to work closely to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for Interline Brands,” Grebe said. “As a close friend and colleague of Bill's for the last 12 years, I am very proud of the work we've done together and I recognize that this decision has not been easy for him. We all have tremendous respect for Bill and we wish him well.”

Interline ranked 13th on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION’s 2008 Big 50 list of distributors, with 2007 sales of $1.24 billion.
