Airgas buys Arizona safety equipment rental firm

Airgas Inc. agreed to acquire safety equipment rental company Energy Safety Services Inc., doing business as Oilind Safety, for an undisclosed amount.

Phoenix, Ariz.-based Oilind rents fall protection, breathing air and gas monitoring systems and provides safety management services for audits, training and emergency response planning. The company, which posted sales of $21 million last year, employs more than 200 workers in 16 locations. Once the deal is closed, expected by July 1, Oilind will operate as a stand-alone company within Airgas’ newly formed construction and rental businesses division.

Airgas ranked fifth on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION’s 2008 Big 50 list of distributors, with 2007 sales of $4.02 billion.
