Gates Corp. plans to shutter its belting plant in Moncks Corner, S.C., and consolidate its production into other North American operations.“We are in a very competitive business, both here and internationally. We regret having to consider any plant closing,” Gates Power Transmission Group president Brian Harris said. “The closure is not a reflection on the performance of plant employees or plant operations. Moncks Corner has been in operation for a long time, and we respect and appreciate our longstanding relationship with our employees and the community.”
There was no immediate information given about how many jobs would be affected by the closure, slated for the first quarter of 2009.
Denver-based Gates, which is a subsidiary of Tomkins plc, manufactures fluid power, power transmission and automotive products.
