Ferguson Enterprises to open new N.Y. branch

Despite being squeezed by the downturn in residential construction, Wolseley plc’s North American plumbing and HVAC distribution division Ferguson Enterprises is set to open a new, 15,000-square-foot waterworks store in Clifton Park, N.Y., May 1.

Late last year, Wolseley announced plans to lay of 1,300 workers in its North American operations, adding to the 1,700 workers the British building materials distributor let go during the three months ended Oct. 31, 2007.

Those cuts slashed its Stock Building Supply workforce by roughly one-third and amounted to a 10 percent reduction for Ferguson, moves Wolseley said would save nearly $122 million annually.
