84 Lumber closes 30 stores
-- Industrial Distribution, 5/1/2008
84 Lumber Co. shuttered another 30 stores, the Pittsburgh Business Times reported.
“As we continue to assess our store operations and current state of the new home construction market, we are decisively closing stores that are operating in unprofitable markets and consolidating others in metro markets,” executive vice president of store operations Frank Cicero said in a statement.
It's the second round of closures in as many weeks for the Eighty Four, Pa.-based building materials distributor, which closed nine stores in late March.
The latest closings include stores in Tucson, Ariz.; Forest Grove, Ore.; Meridian, Idaho; Corpus Christi, Texas; Milton, Fla.; and Gilroy, Calif. Other stores in California, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas are due to be shuttered and consolidated into nearby locations.
Including the latest round, 84 Lumber has closed 118 branches since April 2006. The company now has 368 stores and 13 component manufacturing facilities in 37 states.
