Motion Industries’ 1Q sales rise 6 percent

Motion Industries posted first-quarter sales of $881.2 million, up 5.7 percent compared with $833.4 million during the same period last year,

Operating profits for the Birmingham, Ala.-based power transmission and motion control products distributor, which is a division of Genuine Parts Co., rose 6.8 percent to $69 million, compared with $64.6 million during the first quarter of 2007.

“We believe that … Motion [is] positioned to have another good year in 2008,” Genuine Parts president and CEO Thomas C. Gallagher said.

Motion ranked sixth on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION's 2007 Big 50 list of distributors, with 2006 sales of $3.1 billion.
