Rep. Hunter honored by Hand Tools InstituteThe Hand Tools Institute presented United States Rep. Duncan Hunter (R.-Calif.) with the Hand Tools Institute American Manufacturing Champion Award.
Hunter is the first recipient of the award, which recognizes legislators that demonstrate strong support for manufacturing.
Scott Meyer, president-emeritus of HTI, presented the award and pointed to Congressman Hunter's “tireless efforts to combat predatory trade policies, ranging from currency manipulation to illegal subsidies designed to achieve industrial supremacy at America's expense.”
Headquartered in Tarrytown, N.Y., the Hand Tool Institute is an association of American hand tool manufacturers.

PTDA Canadian Conference set for May 29-31The Power Transmission Distributors Assn. will hold its seventh annual Canadian Conference May 29-31 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Whistler, British Columbia.
Highlights of this year's meeting include author and business analyst Michael Campbell, who in the keynote address will present an economic forecast analyzing domestic and global leading indicators that could impact Canadian markets.
Anne Parker, PTDA climate project volunteer, will speak on Al Gore's “An Inconvenient Truth,” during which she will explain the basics of global warming, examine the evidence of climate change around the world and address how these changes will affect countries and what they can do about them.
In addition, representatives of the mining, energy and food & beverage industries will discuss and analyze various growth opportunities for motion control products within their respective industries.

NLBMDA meets in D.C.The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Assn. recently held its annual legislative conference in Washington, D.C.
Members heard from Congressional leaders and met with them to discuss issues that affect the lumber and building industries.
This year's event included a first for the NLBMDA, a green building forum, organized by the LBM Institute and the Green Building Advisory Council, both affiliates of the NLBMDA.

NEMA publishes Application Guide for Isolated Ground Wiring DevicesThe National Electrical Manufacturers Assn. recently published its latest Application Guide for Isolated Ground Wiring Devices.
The guide, produced by NEMA's Wiring Device Section, covers wiring devices and accessories that help protect sensitive equipment from malfunction due to noise on the equipment grounding path. The guide also covers National Electrical Code requirements, applications for isolated ground circuits and trouble shooting and maintenance of such installations.
It does not consider analysis of noise currents on the grounding system of power supply circuits or their effects on sensitive electronic equipment.
