HD Supply revealed more details of its plan to expand a branch in Cramahe Township, Ontario, the Northumberland Today Web site reported. The Orlando-based building materials supplier spent $570,000 on 15 acres in the township, just across the street from its current location there.
Spokeswoman Erica Crosling told the Web site that the company will relocate to a new, 65,000-square-foot facility by November, nearly doubling the size of its current, 35,000-square-foot store. The new location will have 50,000 square feet of warehouse space and 20,000 square feet office space.
The 50 workers employed there will keep their jobs, Crosling said, adding that the construction will likely mean short-term jobs for local builders.
"We usually like to hire local construction people. We will use the suppliers and contractors that make the most sense," Crosling told the site. "We're thrilled to be staying in the community. … We are pleased to offer a site that has the attributes to be a focal point for new development within the township."
HD Supply ranked second on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION’s 2007 Big 50 list of distributors, with 2006 sales of $12.1 billion.
