A whistleblower and former employee accused W.W. Grainger Inc. of repeatedly overcharging the U.S. government and re-labeling materials made in restricted countries before selling them to federal agencies, according to The Business Journal of Milwaukee (subscription required for full article). The newspaper, citing a recently unsealed federal lawsuit, reported that former district sales manager Brian Holbrook filed a so-called “whistleblower” lawsuit in Milwaukee’s U.S. District Court, a move that has evidently attracted the attention of federal investigators.
Ernest Duplessis, Grainger’s vice president of internal and external communications, told the newspaper that the company’s policy is not to comment on pending litigation.
