The 3M Corp. is considering whether to shutter an adhesives plant in Gorseinon, Wales, the South Wales Evening Post reported. The St. Paul, Minn.-based industrial conglomerate is entering “collective consultation" with the 300 workers employed at the plant to consider its fate.
“We are experiencing a decline in demand for our products and this has forced us to consider the medium to longer-term future of the plant,” plant manager John Bowers told the newspaper. “While we have identified some product areas we believe will be sustainable, there are also significant parts of the business facing real challenges going forward.”
The plant, which once employed 1,000 people, manufactures adhesives, car aftercare products and 300 types of tape.
