The National Assn. of Electrical Distributors has named Richard (Dick) Waterman as the chair-elect of the NAED Board of Directors for 2008-2009.
Waterman will succeed Tammy Miller, CEO of Border States Electric Supply in Fargo, N.D., who is chairman for 2007-2008.
“Serving as chairman brings with it a great responsibility to the entire electrical community,” Waterman said. “I'm extremely honored to accept this role. I will push hard to ensure NAED continues to be a strong association, representing the needs of all our members.”
Waterman is executive vice president and CEO of International Electric Supply Corp., the holding company formed after the Rexel Group's acquisition of GE Supply. Headquartered in Dallas, IESC oversees the separately managed and operated U.S. businesses of Rexel Inc. and GE Supply.
Waterman has served on NAED's board as well as the board of the NAED Education & Research Foundation. He has also served as chairman of the Electro Federation of Canada. (For more information on NAED, see page 20.)

PTDA holds first executive development conferenceThe Power Transmission Distributors Assn. recently held its first Executive Development Conference at the Woodlands Conference Center & Resort, The Woodlands, Texas.
Nearly 50 distributor and manufacturer executives attended for two days of presentations and educational sessions geared towards regional managers, sales managers and vendor relations specialists.
The event was held in conjunction with PTDA's board of directors, manufacturer council and committee meetings.
At one of the educational sessions, power transmission distributor Dave LaRue of Baldwin Supply talked about developing a personal leadership advantage and building effective leadership skills.
In another session, management consultant Peter Land led a seminar and training session on situational leadership.

BSA elects officers, board membersThe Bearing Specialists Assn. elected Cam Lawrence, BDI Canada, Inc., as president of the association for 2007-2008. In addition, Tom Miller, Motion Industries Inc. was elected chairman of BSA's board of directors.
The announcements were made the BSA's annual convention held in May. (See page 17.)
Steve Durston, Jamaica Bearings, was elected first vice-president; Eduardo Bichara, Baleromix, S.A. de C.V, second vice-president; and Ellen Holladay, Motion Industries, Inc., treasurer.
The association also elected Tom Armold, Applied Industrial Technologies; Doug Savage, Bearing Service Inc.; and James Webster, DXP Enterprises, to three-year terms on the board. William Du Comb, W. C. Du Comb Company Inc., was elected to fulfill Bichara's unexpired term.
Board members who will continue to serve in 2007-08 are: Craig Faber, Miller Bearings Inc.; John Timble, Bearing Headquarters Co.; Gordon Duncan, Kinecor Inc.; Craig Gipson, Gipson Bearing & Supply; and Ron Aupperle, IBT Inc.
