University of Nebraska students on the benefits of an industrial distribution degree
Q: What advantage will your industrial distribution degree bring to potential employers?
Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 5/1/2007
LEWIS V. HYATT The industrial distribution program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has helped me realize my potential and the many opportunities available upon graduation. Our curriculum is designed to provide the skills needed to be successful in the industry, as well as the work ethic to be successful in life.
Industrial distribution students learn valuable skills, including industrial management, industry knowledge, networking, sales, and excellent work habits. Our internship program gives us the opportunity to experience industrial distribution first hand and gain insightful knowledge and experience prior to graduation.
Employers can be confident that students from UNK's industrial distribution program will understand management, sales and marketing, economics and accounting, engineering and technology, customer and personal service, and science and math applied to technology.
What's more, our curriculum sets us apart from other business and liberal arts programs by giving us a conceptual understanding of industry operations.
We also have the opportunity to visit with industry leaders at our career fairs and obtain valuable knowledge during the internship portion of our coursework.
I look forward to applying my knowledge and skills to a successful career in industrial distribution.
MISTY R. AMMON I'm sure it's difficult for employers to find talent that represents a positive opportunity for the company and fits the desired mold, as well. As an industrial distribution major at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, I am well aware of the plentiful talent and opportunity here for employers all over the nation.
The industrial distribution program has prepared me, in many ways, for what lies ahead in the business world. For instance, UNK's program is equipped with a sincere and highly capable staff that is dedicated to the students and the program. It also gives young professionals the chance to become technically savvy and business competent.
The program's hands-on experience has been exciting, to say the least. Industrial distribution students are required to learn everything from running a lathe to writing a marketing strategy.
Our program develops students by imparting technical knowledge, business skills and ethics. Product knowledge, operations specifications, and selling skills are included in the diverse class offering, as well, helping to round out the program.
I think the ability to “wear different hats” gives industrial distribution students an advantage over others seeking careers in distribution. Students in our program have high standards—for themselves and their future employers—and that is what sets industrial distribution majors apart from all others.
