Big 50 distributors make the Fortune 500 list

Five of Industrial Distribution's Big 50 companies are listed on the 2007 Fortune 500 list of America's largest corporations, ranging from general MRO distributor W.W. Grainger to electrical/MRO giant Wesco International.
Each year, Fortune compiles its list from financial statements filed with federal agencies and state governments by companies incorporated in the United States, including private companies and cooperatives. Private companies that do not file statements, companies incorporated abroad, subsidiaries and foreign-owned American companies are not included.
W.W. Grainger ranked No. 388, with sales of $5.9 billion and $383.4 million in profits; Motion Industries' parent company Genuine Parts Co. ranked No. 244, with $10.5 billion in sales and $475.4 million in profits; and Smith International, parent of PVF distributor Wilson Industries, ranked No. 324, with $7.3 billion in sales and $502 million in profits. In addition, Top 10 electrical distributors Wesco International and Graybar Electric checked in at numbers 425 and 450 respectively. Wesco had sales of $5.3 billion and $217 million in profits; Graybar Electric recorded sales of $5 billion, with $57 million in profits.
