CEOs optimistic on economy
Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 4/1/2007
The leaders of small and mid-sized companies are optimistic about the United States economy's prospects in 2007, based on upticks in first-quarter sales and revenues, according to a survey by Vistage International.
The Vistage CEO Confidence Index rose to 95.4 for the first quarter of 2007, up from 93 during the fourth quarter of 2006.
The index is compiled from a survey of 1,943 chief executives who are members of the trade group.
“CEOs expect an economic expansion to continue for the balance of 2007, despite uncertainties from the housing slump, higher energy prices and record consumer debt,” said Richard Curtin, a consultant for the group.
The executives polled said they remain concerned by tight labor markets, with more than a third providing higher compensation, bonuses or benefits to attract and retain qualified employees.
