ISSA partners with Green Seal

ISSA announced a partnership with Green Seal to provide smaller ISSA business members ($20 million in annual sales or less) with a discount on Green Seal's cleaning product certification fees. Green Seal is a non-profit group that provides environmental certification standards for various products and services.

Green Seal's cleaning chemicals certification program promotes the manufacture and use of environmentally preferable products. Green Seal will give a 25 percent discount on the evaluation fee of a single product and a 15 percent discount on the evaluation fee of multiple products. Green Seal will also offer a payment plan option to make certification easier to incorporate into annual budgets.

In other ISSA news, the association's board of directors passed a resolution to change board-election campaign practices beginning in 2007.

The resolution, which was passed at the July 2006 board meeting, limits candidates' election activity to a biography and short campaign statement to be published in ISSA Today and on issa.com, and which will accompany the ballot.

“ISSA will no longer provide candidates with electronic or other membership lists,” the resolution states. “The ISSA Board requests and encourages that candidates limit campaign actions to the above stated activities.”

NFPA to hire new director

The National Fluid Power Assn. has begun the search for an executive director to replace Linda Western, who will retire in February after more than 17 years with the association.

Western joined NFPA in 1989 as director of communications and member relations. She became director of association services and development in 1991, a position she held until January 2000 when the board of directors asked her to serve as interim executive director. She was officially named executive director in May 2000.

NAW's compensation report on PDF

The National Assn. of Wholesaler-Distributors' 2006 Employee Compensation Report is available in PDF format. The report shows readers how their company's compensation program compares with those of other wholesale-distribution companies.

The report includes data from 2,080 wholesaler-distributors across all lines of trade. The study offers benchmarks and backup needed to budget employee pay, including break-outs by: company size, in more than 20 sales-volume categories; job title, from warehouse employee to CEO; geography, by more than 100 areas in the United States and Canada; and compensation, based on salaries and bonuses, commission plans, retirement plans, end-of-year bonuses, vacation and holiday pay.

Also available from NAW is Lean Warehousing, a book that applies the lean manufacturing concept to warehouses. Written by Ken Ackerman, it explains how to implement the process and provides a series of checklists and tips to make the warehouse operation leaner right away.
