Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 11/1/2005
Sebastian Circo, founder of Precision Industries , died on Sept. 27. Circo founded Precision in 1945 in Omaha, Neb., as Precision Bearing Service. Precision Bearing became Precision Industries, an industrial distributorship, in 1990.
A longtime member of the Bearing Specialists Assn. and the Power Transmission Distributors Assn., Circo served on industry advisory boards and committees for many major companies, but was known to say that his greatest achievement was founding Precision Bearing.
Today, Precision Industries is one of the world's largest family-owned industrial distributors with 140 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, and export operations worldwide. Precision, listed as number 27 in Industrial Distribution's 2005 Big 50, employs 800 associates. Circo's son, Dennis, serves as chief executive officer and chairman, and his grandson, Chris, serves as the company's president and chief operating officer.
Circo's other accomplishments include: helping found the American Bearings Specialists Assn., as well as Skyline Woods Country Club, and being a founding stockholder of Union Plaza Casino in Las Vegas. He also was a founding member of Christ the King church, served on the Archbishop's Committee for Development in the ACD Quarter Club for 25 years, was inducted into the South High Hall of Fame, and was honored by the River City Roundup Business Hall of Fame.
