NFPA publishes new technical standards

Four technical documents have been published by, and are available from, the National Fluid Power Assn.

Documents include: NFPA/T2.12.5 R1–2004, information report, fluid power, laboratory guidelines (second edition); NFPA/T2.13.3 R3–2004, information report, bibliography, hydraulic fluid power, non-proprietary hydraulic fluid specifications and selected recommended practices (fourth edition); NFPA/T3.19.22 R2–2004, information report, hydraulic fluid power, bibliography, sealing devices standards (third edition); and ISO 14743:2004, pneumatic fluid power, push-in connectors for thermoplastic tubes.

NFPA coordinates standards development for fluid power at the industry, national and international levels; is secretariat of the Fluid Power Committee B93, an independent standards development committee; and serves as the secretariat of ISO Technical Committee 131, which is responsible for the development of international standards for fluid power.

NIBA announces scholarship winners

As an integral part of NIBA–The Belting Assn.'s not-for-profit charitable philosophy, the association offers two $2,000 scholarships each year to college students for a business-related course of study.

The scholarship is available to children of NIBA distributor/fabricator member company employees, but the funds may be used at any college or university. NIBA's Education & Training Committee selects the recipients.

From 24 applications received, this year's scholarship recipients are Rebecca Erin Ford (Belt Power Corp.) and Katharine L. Kershaw (Applied Industrial Technologies). NIBA also offers three $1,000 scholarships to employees of distributor/fabricator member companies.

FPDA releases statistical tools

FPDA–Serving Fluid Power and Motion Technology Distributors announced the availability of its 2004 PROFIT Report and 2004 Compensation Report.

The 2004 PROFIT Report is an annual financial analysis of typical distributor performance in terms of sales growth, return on investment, gross margin, and additional comparative financial performance information. Detailed survey results include comparative financial ratios and statistics by: sales volume size, geographic area sales emphasis, performance of warehouse assembly operations, and a special analysis that focuses on high-profit firms.

The 2004 Compensation Report consists of two volumes: Volume I: FPDA Member Data Results includes a summary of employee compensation, and detailed statistics on executive, employee and sales compensation; and Volume II: Cross Industry Data samples 2,000 firms, representing more than 7,000 locations from 33 participating distributor trade associations.

EASA's Fall seminar schedule

The Electrical Apparatus Service Assn. announced its Fall 2004 seminar schedule, including Principles of Large AC Motors, Oct. 1–2, in Charlotte, N.C., which examines topics such as motor applications, safety considerations and vibration; and Root Cause Failure Analysis, Nov. 5–6, in New Orleans, which explores the cause of motor failures.
