Tracking tool crib materials
Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 7/1/2004
The Accu-Port, a combination of tool crib automation software and an electronically controlled RFID portal, enables hands-off tracking of indirect materials for industrial facilities needing to better manage their materials without adding or changing processes.
Using RFID technology, a user entering a storeroom or tool crib is identified by his or her badge and the touch-screen interface for entry into the materials area. After selecting the item, the user returns to the area entrance, where the RFID badges identify the user and the items, completing the transaction for the inventory.
Developed by WinWare, the CribMaster Accu-Port system drives cost reduction by automating replenishment, creating and distributing purchase orders, reducing pilferage and misuse, and reducing labor involved with inventory management. The system also can help identify process flaws and improve production performance by issuing items to cost centers and monitoring usage.
