Bothell, Wash. —Microvision, Inc., a provider of light-scanning technologies, has introduced the Flic Cordless scanner, a wireless device suited for price-sensitive applications where up to 30 feet of range between the scanner and the host computer is needed to scan objects or data. The Bluetooth (short-range wireless radio capabilities)-enabled bar code scanner, with a miniature wireless base station, is one of the lowest-priced wireless laser scanners.
Flic Cordless can be used as a companion scanner in retail point of sale applications; receiving and inventory management; asset or records tracking; clinical laboratory specimen tracking; medical cart dispensing; manufacturing work in progress; and mobile workforce automation. Flic Cordless joins the conventional Flic tethered laser bar code scanner. Both scanners feature a patent-pending, low-cost, shock-resistant, mechanical/magnetic laser scan engine; can read popular linear bar code types including UPC, 39 and 128; and read from a distance of 2.5 to 7 in. and small codes down to 10 mil. wide.
The cordless scanner is offered with a selection of Bluetooth base stations that plug into host computers at their RS232 or standard USB ports. The Flic scanner and free software enable users to direct the bar code data into Windows-based systems, DOS-based applications and other proprietary systems.
