MIT acquires A-1 Cutting Tools & Supplies

Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 11/1/2002

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Industrial Tools, an integrated supplier of abrasives, tools, coolants, lubricants and MRO equipment, acquired A-1 Cutting Tools & Supplies, a Minneapolis-based distributor of cutting tools, abrasives, measuring equipment and coolants. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A-1 Cutting Tools was formed last year through the merger of two Minneapolis-based industrial tool suppliers: A-1 Wheels & Tools and Cutting Tools. The two companies have a combined 42 years of experience selling to small and mid-sized companies in Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska.

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Minnesota Industrial Tool serves manufacturing customers throughout North America.

MIT president Mort Harris said the acquisition is a first step in the company's strategic growth plan.

"We're excited about this acquisition because it gives us increased capacity to serve our customers throughout the Midwest, from smaller-sized companies to larger companies," said Harris. "A-1 Cutting Tools customers will benefit from MIT's exceptional supply capabilities and customer service. We see this as the first stage of our overall growth plan."
