ISSA honors four at annual meeting. The International Sanitary Supply Assn. recognized four members with awards last month at ISSA/INTERCLEAN-USA 2002 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Donald Lees, Big D Industries, Inc., Oklahoma City, Okla., received The Jack D. Ramaley Industry Distinguished Service Award for over 10 years' outstanding service to the industry.

The John H. Plant Membership development Award went to three members who have recruited at least 25 companies into ISSA. They are: Bruce Casselman, Quick-MacCallum Corp., Toronto, Canada; Mattie Chinks, Avmor Ltd., Laval, Quebec, Canada; and Peter Holt, Truvox Int'l. Ltd., Southampton, England.

NEDA releases distribution publication. The National Electronic Distributors Assn. released the first edition of The Review of Electronic and Industrial Distribution Industries, a compilation of articles geared toward association members. Professors at five universities wrote the articles, each of which has an executive summary. The next edition is due in mid-winter.

Also, NEDA's E-commerce Roundtable will meet Nov. 13-14 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

NAW looks at the future. A new publication of the National Assn. of Wholesaler-Distributors' Distribution Research & Education Foundation takes a look at the industry from the points of view of 11 distribution leaders. Written in collaboration with Pembroke Consulting's Dr. Adam Fein, Facing the Forces of Change OUTLOOK 2003 discusses key industry issues, says DREF director Ron Schreibman.

"Also included are specific actions distribution executives can take to position their companies for success," Schreibman says.

ISEA creates "toolkit for safety." The International Safety Equipment Assn. developed a Making the Case for Safety Equipment toolkit as a resource to help safety officers convince bosses and workers about the value of personal protective equipment. The kit includes: Employer's Roadmap to PPE, PPE at Work, cost benefits, PPE testimonials and other resources from ISEA. Buyers of the kit are eligible for updates and new tools as they are created.

NIFS/WEST hits Las Vegas this month. The National Industrial Fastener Show/WEST takes place at the Paris Las Vegas hotel Nov. 20-22. The show includes many new companies and 2,500 expected attendees, according to show manager Jim Bannister. Conference programs and a workshop highlight the show.

Enter the Dragon: The Growing Impact of PRC on the American Fastener Market will be the main session on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 2:30 p.m.

ASSE announces safety management program. The American Society of Safety Engineers will host the Executive Program in Safety Management, designed for experienced safety professionals in corporate environments, at two venues. The certificate programs will be held Nov. 20-23 in Las Vegas, Nev., and Jan. 27- Feb.2, 2003, in Orlando, Fla.

Seminars include Delivering a High-Performance Safety Management System, held in Las Vegas; Managing the Business Aspects of a Safety Program, held in Orlando, and Reducing Losses from Occupational Health Risks and Environmental Exposures, held at both meetings. A list of pre-requisites is available from the association.

NACD hosts annual meeting. The National Assn. of Chemical Distributors will hold its annual meeting at La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, Calif., Dec. 2-6.

"The entire program is tailored to getting us back to the basics of our businesses — the financial review of our businesses, redirecting our focus to the customer and significant to us all, increasing profits," said NACD annual meeting chairman Thomas Coyne.

Topics include outsourcing logistics, performance components of the chemical industry, solutions for lowering insurance costs, asset protection and business planning strategies, preserving estates for heirs, and securing a business against terrorism.
