Record-breaking attendance at IDC
Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 6/1/2002
Indianapolis — The Independent Distributors Cooperative-USA held its annual meeting at the Adams Mark Hotel in Indianapolis on April 25, followed by an April 26 trade show at its Indianapolis warehouse. The meeting included a general session and awards banquet for member distributors and suppliers.
More than 90 people attended the events. "The record turnout of independent distributors and suppliers is certainly proof that IDC-USA is creating win-win situations for its member distributors and preferred suppliers," said president & CEO Jack L. Bailey. "In a tough economic year like 2001, it was gratifying to see our member-owner distributors turn to the IDC for bottom line enhancement."
While the general economy for distributors was down in 2001, sales through the IDC-USA distributor-owned warehouse were up 14 percent. This year is looking even better, said Bailey.
"Probably the thing that makes our member-owners different from other independent distributors is they really do understand the importance of changing the way they do business in today's competitive market," said Bailey. "IDC has become a strategic partner for independent distributors in a changing marketplace."
Among the awards presented at the meeting, Souderton, Pa.-based Bearings & Drives Unlimited captured the Top Dog Award for the ninth year running.
Bando American of Bowling Green, Ky. was selected by the membership as the Supplier of the Year for the seventh time.
Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based Weimer Bearing & Transmission, Inc. brought home the Leader of the Pack Award.
"Every day we are shrinking as independents," said Weimer president Dick Stangl. He said Weimer values IDC membership because it allows independents to remain competitive.
