Study examines e-recruiting trends

New York—What kind of candidates are searching for jobs online and what are they looking for?
That question recently was asked by iLogos Research, a company that evaluates trends in the e-recruiting industry. The firm surveyed more than 1,500 visitors to the "careers" sections of the corporate Web sites of four Fortune 500 companies. According to iLogos, the results defy some widely held myths about online jobseekers.
Some of the key findings are:
- Almost half of online jobseekers are looking for mid- to senior-level positions. Eight percent of online candidates are seeking director or executive-level positions and 34 percent are seeking mid-management positions.
- Only one out of 10 visitors to corporate career Web sites come from job boards. Three times as many candidates come to a "careers" section from elsewhere within the corporation's Web site.
- Online candidates welcome questions about their skills. For example, 88 percent of those surveyed by iLogos said they are willing to answer questions about their abilities.
- For experienced candidates especially, anonymity is important. Nearly one-quarter of survey respondents consider the ability to apply anonymously, using just an e-mail address, important or very important.
