A Rockwell Automation gift of $955,900 in cash and equipment will help establish the Rockwell Automation Laboratory in Texas A & M University's Dwight Look College of Engineering's engineering technology and industrial distribution department. The lab's primary focus will be support of automation and control education for approximately one-fourth of the department's 1,300 students. The laboratory will help engineering students accelerate their education in automation technology.
"We are confident that the establishment of the [laboratory] will enable students to obtain an even greater understanding of today's cutting-edge automation technology," said Don Davis, Rockwell chairman and CEO. Rockwell currently employees approximately 70 Texas A & M graduates.
The laboratory will include installation of 13 workstations complete with Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers as well as sensors, motor control and actuators. Multiple Rockwell Software packages are also included in the gift. The targeted opening date for the laboratory is spring semester 2001.
