Attendance up at University of ID
By Industrial Distribution Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 12/1/1999
Indianapolis--The tenth session of the University of Industrial Distribution was held at Indiana/Purdue University, Oct. 24-27. With 260 students, attendance was up nearly eight percent over the previous session, held last March at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.UID planners, who had originally anticipated 200 students, were especially pleased with the turnout. Professor Jay Smith, director of the industrial distribution program at UAB, credits the increase, in part, to a new, four-day format and more focused programming.
Previous UID sessions ran for five days and offered 45 courses. Twenty-five courses were offered at the October session.
Smith deemed the session a success, noting that student evaluations have remained high since the program's inception.
"We've gotten rave reviews," says Smith, who helps design the UID curriculum.
On a scale of one to five, students gave the program an overall average of 4.4, with instructor ratings at 4.8, according to Smith.
The University of Industrial Distribution is an industry education program sponsored by 21 trade associations in cooperation with UAB's School of Business. Held twice a year, the program is open to distribution and manufacturing professionals whose companies are members of one of the sponsoring associations.
The next UID session will be held at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, March 26-29, 2000.
