Vallen Corp. acquires safety distributor

Houston, Texas--Vallen Corp. has acquired the business of Augusta Automatic Fire Systems and Equipment, Inc. of Augusta, Ga. Augusta Fire provides sales, inspection and maintenance of portable fire extinguisher lines and installation and maintenance of fire suppression systems in Georgia and South Carolina.

"Adding fire service ability in the Augusta area through the acquisition of Augusta Fire's business continues our strategy of adding complementary service capability in geographic areas served by Vallen's existing safety product and service center locations,'' said Vallen president and CEO Jim Thompson in a release. "Augusta Fire's ability to provide fire safety services to our existing customer base in Georgia and South Carolina markets allows us to implement our total safety solutions programs in these areas, continuing our planned program of selective service business acquisitions. We hope to add safety product lines into Augusta Fire's existing customer base, as well."

Vallen Corp. was ranked No. 19 in Industrial Distribution's 1999 Top 100, which was published in June. The firm had 1998 sales of $348 million.
