Airport construction bill prepares for take off
By Industrial Distribution Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 6/1/1999
In an effort to improve the country's aviation system, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure recently unanimously approved AIR 21, a bill that would substantially increase the availability of funds for airport construction projects."It is important to note that AIR 21 is based on a simple premise: aviation taxes should be used to improve our aviation system so that it is the safest, most secure, and most competitive in the world, with the least congestion possible," said Rep. Bud Shuster, R-Pa., in a recent release. "The good news is that the money is there - it is in the Aviation Trust Fund."
The proposed bill allocates funds to improve airport safety and increase airport capacity by augmenting the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which funds airport construction.
At press time, AIR 21 had not been voted on by the full House of Representatives.
