Hose article 'crimped' opposing viewpoint
By Industrial Distribution Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 5/1/1999
To the editor:The article, "A Permanent Fit" in December's issue is rather one sided. The term "banded," which is used throughout the article, is not generally used in the industry. In the article it appears to mimic our registered trade name, "Band-It," and cast an unfavorable shadow on us. We take exception to this.
For an article such as this to be credible, vague statements such as "banded clamp fittings for large industrial hose have shown [an] unacceptable high failure rate, industry executives say," should be avoided. If they are made, test data, test criteria, and names of industry executives making such grave statements should be identified. In addition, our longstanding experience with clamping industrial hose does not support the above statement.
It is very unfair to throw all "banded" connections into one pot and then dismiss band clamps as inferior.
Sincerely,
Hans R. Hinnen, VP, Engineering
