By Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 3/1/1999
ELM GROVE, WISC.--Bob Dole will be the keynote speaker at the annual convention of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Assn., to be held in Denver, Nov. 14-16.The former senator and 1996 Republican presidential nominee committed to the STAFDA meeting in December. STAFDA executive director Morrie Halvorsen says Dole is sure to be well received by STAFDA members.
"I think that people know Senator Dole for his years of leadership in Congress, but I think what they'll find out is that he is also very witty and entertaining," says Halvorsen. "For instance, he and his wife have the apartment next to Monica Lewinski's in Watergate ... I'm sure he'll have some humorous comments about that."
STAFDA president Dutton Miller, president of Whitehead Hardware in Valdosta, Ga., says Dole will be a welcome speaker for a key reason -- his integrity.
"We're at a pivotal point in the country," he says, referring to the recent political scandals in Washington. "It's tough to be a political figure with integrity, and Senator Dole has both. I think he has earned people's respect."
The subject of Dole's speech will be "Values and Leadership in the 21st Century." Dole will speak on Monday, Nov. 15, during the general session of STAFDA's 23rd annual meeting.
Bob Dole will highlight STAFDA's 1999 convention.
