NEDA joins e-commerce coalition.

The National Electronic Distributors Assn. recently entered into a partnership with a grassroots computer industry organization planning to create a universal language for e-commerce. The project is called RosettaNet and was formed by Ingram Micro Inc., Compaq Computer Corp., IBM, Microsoft, American Express and others. NEDA joined the group as a coalition partner, which means the association will work to expand the support base and constituency for RosettaNet and serve as a conduit for industry input.The group's goal is to focus on the language used in e-commerce transactions. Within two years, RosettaNet developers hope to define everything in the computer industry's supply chain. According to NEDA, those definitions could lead to corporate IT buyers engaging in widespread automated purchasing.
