New officer tabbed for Barnes Group

Bristol, Conn.--Edmund M. Carpenter has been named president and chief executive officer of the Barnes Group, Inc., and has also been elected to the company's board of directors.

Carpenter succeeds Theodore E. Martin, who retired at the end of 1998 as president, CEO and a director of the company. Barnes Group is the parent company of Bowman Distribution.

Prior to joining the Barnes Group, Carpenter, 56, was a senior managing director at the New York private investment firm of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. CD&R formerly was majority owner in WESCO Distribution, Inc., until WESCO's investor-led buyout last spring.
