Cleveland, Ohio--Applied Industrial Technologies begins 1999 under the leadership of a new president, David L. Pugh.Pugh, 50, brings experience in marketing, operations and management to the position of president and chief operating officer. Most recently senior vice president of Rockwell Automation and general manager of its Milwaukee-based Industrial Control Group, Pugh has also held various sales, marketing and operations positions at Square D. Co. and Westinghouse Electric Corp.
"David Pugh is uniquely qualified to be my partner in leading Applied into the next millennium," says John C. Dannemiller, the company's chairman and chief executive officer. "He is experienced in managing complex business operations, understands how to motivate outstanding sales and marketing organizations to success, shares our company's strong sense of core values, and has a command of the technology issues that drive our business.
Pugh assumes the role of president and COO from Dannemiller, who had assumed those additional duties in October 1996 when president John C. (Jack) Robinson was promoted by the board of directors to vice chairman. Robinson died of cancer in February 1998.
The strengths Pugh brings to Applied include the unusual combination of operations as well as sales and marketing knowledge, a company spokesman said, which differs from the in-depth knowledge of Applied's organization that Robinson contributed to the leadership team. Robinson spent his 34-year career at Applied, working his way up through the ranks.
