Combined water heater shut-off valve and thermal expansion control valve is IAPMO certified; the 78-RV series is designed to protect against thermal expansion and damage caused by excessive pressure in closed systems not equipped with an expansion tank; backflow preventers and water pressure regulators without by-passes in residential systems create closed systems with potential overpressure problems; with this system, a thermal control valve is tapped into the side of the shut-off valve to provide surer shut-off, space savings, faster installation and cost savings.
