Motor College courses slated for November. SMMA, The Assn. for Electric Motors, Their Control and Application, has several motor courses on tap for next month. A universal motor design course will be held at the Holiday Inn O'Hare in Rosemont, Ill. Nov. 2-3. The course covers the theory of operation for different universal motor types, performance calculation and analysis, and design methodology. Series motors, DC series motors, permanent magnet DC motors, and AC series motors will be discussed.Two precision motor courses will be held Nov. 10 and 11 at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, Tenn. "Basics of Precision DC Brush, Brushless PM, Switched Reluctance and AC Induction Motors" will be taught Tuesday, Nov. 10 and will cover terminology, definitions, operation, use, manufacturers and drives. "Selecting Various Precision Motors by Size and Type for Different Applications" is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11 and will cover the procedures and guidelines used to select the optimum motor for a specific application.
