NEMA and NAED to form industry data warehouse

NEMA and NAED to form industry data warehouse. The National Electrical Manufacturers' Assn. and the National Assn. of Electrical Distributors recently announced an agreement to develop an industry data warehouse. The data warehouse will allow business partners to exchange product information electronically through a common interface point. Essentially, manufacturers will provide product and public pricing information in a standardized format, which distributors can then retrieve by accessing the IDW. (Distributors will only have access to information from manufacturers they are authorized to deal with.) Debra Goldman, NEMA's director of electronic commerce, says the IDW is an effort to promote electronic commerce throughout the industry. Some NEMA and NAED members have agreed to fund the development of the IDW, which will be managed by a new, non-profit association called the Industry Data Exchange Assn. Goldman says the IDW should be up and running by January 1, 1999...
