NAHAD embarks on new training program
By Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 6/1/1998
Annapolis, Md.--The National Assn. of Hose and Accessories Distributors recently embarked on a major educational initiative. With the help of industry consultants, educators and association members, NAHAD is attempting to put together a comprehensive educational program for hose and accessories distributors.Dubbed the "NAHAD Institute," the program will combine product and technical training, management leadership, sales training, computer skills, and more, delivering them through a variety of mediums -- CD-ROM, video, seminars, etc. Though the program is clearly still in the research and development stage, NAHAD executive vice president Joseph Thompson is excited about the possibilities that exist for distributors.
"We want to let people know that the association is taking education seriously," says Thompson. "The program is not a matter of bringing new courses to the marketplace, but finding out what distributors need and deciding on the best method to deliver those needs."
A team of industry consultants is in the process of developing a curriculum based on member input and research into the methods of delivering industry education. Thompson hopes to roll out the program in January.
"We're trying to take a different tack," he says. "You don't build a product until you know what people's needs are."
Ultimately, NAHAD members will be able to choose from a range of courses and delivery methods and will then be given tools to evaluate the individual programs. Thompson hopes the NAHAD Institute will eventually serve as a benchmark for training in the hose and accessories industry.
