Yackity-Yak...You can talk back. The Material Handling Equipment Distributors Assn., in conjunction with the Assn. Education Alliance, is one of several industry associations sponsoring an in-house training program distributors can access directly from their phones. The 1998 Teleconference Seminar Series connects listeners nationwide by phone for practical training presentations by experts who are speaking from their offices, as well. Association officials say the training is economical and gives employers the freedom to update the skills of multiple employees for a nominal per person cost -- with no travel involved.

Seminar topics this year include: "The Telephone: Reap the Benefits," "How to Recruit the Best Employees," "A Profit Center Waiting to Happen," and "Value-Added Selling." Each training session runs about 60 minutes and is followed by 30 minutes of interactive questions and answers with the speaker, run in a "talk-radio" style presentation. All participants have the opportunity to call in and voice their opinions or ask questions.
