Palm Springs, Calif. - The Coated Abrasives Fabricators Assoc. held its first-ever West Coast convention here on Jan. 25-27, drawing a strong turnout of more than 220 members and associates.Michael Loncarich, secretary of CAFA's board and president of EA Engineered Abrasives Canada Inc. in Stoney Creek, Ontario, says switching from a traditional East Coast venue was worth the trip. In past years the annual convention drew about 180 people, and 38 companies displayed products at the trade show this year.
"It was truly an international event,'' he says, noting suppliers from Europe, South America and the Far East attended.
Two new members were elected to the board of directors, including Debbie Clem, vice president of abrasives at Continental Sea International, and associate member Carlos Amezcua, general manager of Fandeli International Corp.
Other board members are president Steve Seitz of Future Abrasives Co.; vice president and treasurer, John Sidebottom, Duraline Abrasives Inc.; Doug Mackay, Abrasives and Allied Products, Inc.; and associate Win Wilson of Composite Materials. Corp. Elections of new officers will be held in May.
