Ingersoll-Dresser Pump Co. is doing its part to help the environment. The pump manufacturer was recently awarded a contract to supply the first giant pumps to be used to restore the water quality of the Everglades. The South Florida Water Management District has called for eight large, vertical pumps and associated gears and formed suction intakes. The pumps will be used in a series of wetlands in Palm Beach County to remove phosphorus from runoff waters and restore the quality of Everglades National Park.
"This is a great day for the Everglades, and for all who depend upon it for everything from clean water and recreation to the tourism industry,'' said John Onderjack, Southeast regional sales manager for Ingersoll-Dresser Pump. "This effort to restore the Everglades is the biggest of its kind in the history of the world, and we are proud to have been selected to supply the first pumps for it.''
