SMMA and NEMA form task force
By Staff -- Industrial Distribution, 2/1/1998
Sherborn, Mass.--Representatives of SMMA (The Assn. for Electric Motors, Their Control and Application) have joined with the Programmable Motion Control Technical Committee of the National Electrical Manufacturers Assn. to form a task force that will draft common terminology for fractional horsepower motors and motion control. Two meetings were held in 1997 and a third was held in January. The task force has identified relevant international standards and association publications as a resource to harmonize motor and motion control definitions. A compilation of terms was reviewed at the group's two-day meeting in January, and upon completion the terms were to be distributed to the SMMA Technology Committee for review.
Once finalized, the new motor and motion control terminology will become the basis for revised standards and/or technical reference materials for each group.
