May sales for W.W. Grainger Inc. rose 8 percent compared with May 2006.
Daily sales at the Chicago-based broad-line distributor’s grew 9 percent compared with the same period last year.
The growth was offset by roughly 1 percent due to the cancellation of some low margin integrated supply contracts, but was bolstered by roughly the same amount from strong sales of seasonal products.
For Grainger’s Acklands–Grainger branch-based segment, daily sales rose 8 percent in United States dollars (6 percent in Canadian dollars).
For its Lab Safety Supply division, including incremental sales from its acquisition of Professional Inspection Equipment Inc. and Construction Book Express Inc., sales also grew 8 percent.
Grainger ranked fourth on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION’s 2007 Big 50 list of distributors, with 2006 sales of $5.9 billion.
